Good news and a little heads-up for everyone keeping an eye on ISO 9001: 2026. This new revision has been pushed from December 2025, and now it’s expected to drop as ISO 9001:2026 around September 2026.
Here at G.E.N.S Management, we will share the latest updates through on both our homepage as well as on LinkedIn, so it might be a good idea to follow us.
The question on everyone's mind is why update the ISO 9001 now? The last update was way back in 2015, and since then, process, technologies, methodologies adopted by companies across the world has definitely changed.
We are now living in a business world that is faster, efficiency and also more unpredictable than ever therefore a refresh is needed.
After a big round of international consultations that wrapped up in August 2023, there was a clear consensus that updating the standard was a must. Nowadays, the shift in technology & information, increasing focus on sustainability and the shift to remote or hybrid work provide the quality management with greater challenges and criticality.
So what can we expect from this ISO 9001:2026? There are four key areas of focus in the upcoming revision.:
Leadership that’s all about ethics and integrity: There’s likely to be an increased emphasis on leaders setting the tone with strong ethical values.
Better risk management: The updated standard might get tougher on proactive risk management, including ways to identify and handle potential issues before they get out of hand.
More stakeholder input: Expect an enhanced focus on including the voice of customers, employees, suppliers, and the community in shaping quality processes.
Closer alignment with other standards: They might streamline ISO 9001 even more with standards like ISO 14001 (for environmental management) and ISO 45001 (for occupational health and safety).
